For Immediate Release

Richard Fleetwood, Founder of SurvivalRing Unlimited and the SurvivalRing and Civil Defense Now websites, is proud to announce the release of the very first multimedia cd rom of authentic civil defense digital documents from his website. In work since 1997, this compilation of digital files in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and webpage html brings together the largest file libary yet of life saving material from all possible genres of preparedness, survival, and civil defense.

The SurvivalRing/Civil Defense Now Ultimate Civil Defense Digital Library

The Ultimate Civil Defense Digital CollectionYears in the making, close to 20,000 pages of documents and historical data, in over 475 reports, covering fallout shelter, nuclear survival, terrorism preparedness, natural and manmade and technological disaster preparedness and mitigation.  This is by far the most state of the art presentation using the most AUTHENTIC material yet on Civil Defense.

Want proof that we are serious in being the best?  We offer the following features on our CD that you won't find on most other cds offered on eBay...

  • Our CD Rom features ON DISK search functions and programming!
  • We have fully programmed navigation features, with custom graphics, browser enabled, with NO need for usage of disk drive space...it runs off the CD ROM completely.
  • It autoboots for your system once installed (if autorun is enabled on your computer)
  • It has links to DOZENS of the most useful history, organizations, and community sites on the web, including a DYNAMIC links system in case YOU want to add more useful sites to our database.  Links to the Civil Defense organizations very hard to find elsewhere are here ( including the ultimate in civil defense nations...Switzerland's National Civil Defense Program).
  • Buyers get email notifications of NEW files as they come online, with free access. This is a DYNAMIC project, after all.
  • This is a completely NEW product, NOT an old collection, copy, or small set of documents.  What you have here is the BEST compendium yet of ALL areas of fallout shelter....NOT just plans.  Standards, Architecture, planning, schools, business, and more...all are covered here when it comes to REAL shelter.
  • This CD Rom has more GOVERNMENT PRODUCED citizen survival information than ANY CD to date....including GOVERNMENT PRODUCED CD ROMS.    Think on that for a moment....
  • We provide technical support on this and all future CDs via email....does anyone else?

Supporting YOU...

Obviously, having spent the past several years collecting and researching the civil defense world as we have, there has been ONE main reason that has kept us going...without funding, without guidance, without any visible means of support other than simple feedback and attaboys. What has kept us going? YOU.

The fact that you are here now, viewing this information, after spending unknown amounts of time simply trying to find out if it existed online, tells us that WE did good. We created something that didn't exist before, we learned how to harness the power of the web and research the ways to make data available, and we GOT IT ONLINE.

We are extremely serious in our goal of continuing this sharing, and we will continue to find ways to collect more, share more, and offer more...of everything. Why? Because we want to ... and because we can. Our first CD is a labor of PURE love, and is only the beginning of what we have to offer.

While in many ways the sheer effort in finally getting it PRODUCED made us wince and moan at times, we know that it may need a bit of polish or nipping and tucking here and there...BUT it is a very viable product, offering INCREDIBLY hard to find survival and preparedness information...like no other product before it.

Technical Support

This project entails using the latest state of the art technology using web page design and online and offline digital file reproduction, and attempts to push the envelope when it comes to getting something from hardcopy to digitized data, so that the anyone with a computer may learn from historical documents long forgotten.

In recreating this data, using the best tools at hand, and the most affordable hardware and software, we believe we can offer to anyone with a computer or access to one, the best representation of civil defense content that exists. And, since in most cases WE are the ones creating it, we think we will be able to answer most questions that may arise when it comes to technical problems in viewing or accessing the documents.

We offer FREE email support to anyone who purchases our CD ROMS, and will do so indefinitely.

Online Interaction

We have for years been a free online resource of much of the material we offer, and we are continuously adding new material, research tools, database access, and more to our realm of information. We offer many ways to share this info, through dynamic websites, bbs message systems, email lists, and more. Anyone who joins these resources (freely, of course) can ask questions, seek specific answers, and learn more everyday, by taking part in the community WE have created with users from around the world.

Come, see what we have to offer, and tell us what we can do to help you.

Current Projects

Thanks for your interest in our latest SurvivalRing/Civil Defense Now project CD Roms. Currently we have our first CD Rom, The Ultimate Survival Library, seen on the left side of your screen, published and being sold via this website, eBay, and by direct mail. As of today, 5/1/2004, we have sold 10,575 copies of this CD, getting out to the world over nineteen million pages of data, since we created the CD in October of 2002.

We are very proud of this fact. We have produced digital data that, in some cases, no government had online anywhere. We offer for you, the average citizen, the ability to keep your family safe in the worst situations, by having this life saving information directly in your hands.

Our next CD Release, planned for July 4th, 2004 is the "Master Fallout Shelter Collection", with dozens of plans, standards, regulations, books, articles, maps, and more. It will even have several plans in Autocad .DFX format for editing and including in house plans.

Future releases after CD number two include a huge set of Field Manuals, a 600 megabyte set of first responder manuals for weapons of mass destruction training, and several CDs of classic civil defense films, all viewable within standard internet web browsers.

Stay tuned, and watch the SurvivalRing website, and particularly this page, for availability of these CD releases.

Again, thanks for your support, and as always, feel free to email if you have ANY questions.

Supporting Us...

This project has taken years to get this far, and was financed out of all the spare change in the sofa, under the car seat, flea market trades, and more...and a small hand full of supporters on the web who have seen this project grow from a single page on a personal web site to its very own unique entity. Thousands of hours of time, sleepless nights spent reading, writing, and programming, more time spent researching and finding all the links and original sources for everything else. In other words, it has become a labor of love.

It also, at this point has become a truly useful, completely authentic, and very viable product for troubled times. I ask you now, if you truly think the info you now have in your possession by having this cd, can and will be life saving in times of need, then PLEASE support us with cash donations or purchases of our current cd files and future upcoming releases.

About The Author

Richard Fleetwood is the founder of the SurvivalRing webring, and the SurvivalRing, Civil Defense Now, and The Blast Shelter websites. He is married with three teenaged children and lives in central Wyoming. His background includes 10 years of federal employment, 5 years in the defense electronics industry producing FLIR, laser, and TOW systems, and many years in the computer field. He holds FEMA certificates in Radiological Emergency Management and Emergency Program Management.

Using skills developed in researching things computer, real estate, and technology job related, he spent thousands of hours online, in used bookstores, at flea markets “and any place you could find safety-related material,” and he started studying the entire genre of Civil Defense.

Despite “the billions of dollars spent from the ‘50s through the ‘80s on nuclear preparedness, Civil Defense, training materials, and more,” Fleetwood said, “there was precious little information on more than the very basic things on the Web.”

This US Civil Defense work from the Cold War period was intended to help farmers deal with radioactive fallout from a nuclear attack. It’s a good example of the extent of the efforts the US government made to protect the citizenry in those days.

Having collected over 200 unique and rare original Office of Civil Defense documents, manuals, training books, pamphlets, and other related materials over the past couple of years using Ebay, used book stores and searches, donations and loans from individuals around the country, he is slowing getting these rare sources of information scanned in and online on his websites. He has also compiled over 1.5 gigabytes of digitized documents from FEMA, the Red Cross, various Civil Defense organizations, military field manuals, and emergency management organizations nationwide, and is preparing a collection of this set of information for the world.

He has also made contacts with multiple international Civil Defense organizations and received hundreds of pages of English language documents from Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, the UK and Canada, and was at this writing awaiting packages from Singapore and Norway with more of the same.

His goal is to create the single largest online and offline source of worldwide Civil Defense documentation, training, and historical archiving for any and all future uses of those needing this information.

To Richard Fleetwood, Civil Defense is the same as “citizen preparedness.”

“It is up to each and every one of us in this nation to be prepared when a disaster strikes either directly or nearby, so that we do not burden others, and are able and available to assist those who do suffer the worst,” Fleetwood said. “There are many other areas of Civil Defense that connect completely with the theme of citizen preparedness, such as the skills of threat assessment, national security knowledge, neighborhood watch programs, crime prevention, and so on.   We should be the ones protecting our own families and neighbors.”
